The Story Behind the Iconic Grace Kelly High Society Wedding Dress

In High Society 1956, Grace Kelly plays the role of a beautiful spoiled heiress, Tracy Lord, who spends her days as a wealthy socialite.

Grace Kelly’s character has just gotten engaged.

However, as soon as her ex-husband (Bing Crosby) gets wind of this, he sets out to make her realize that she’s still in love with him—and he has only 48 hours to prove this—before the wedding.

In the ensuing musical drama, a handsome undercover tabloid reporter (Frank Sinatra) also joins the party, only to also fall heads over heels for the aloof Tracy Lord.

With three men vying for her love as the countdown to the wedding ensues... which one will be waiting for her at the aisle, as she walks down it in her iconic vintage wedding dress?

The Scoop Leading Up to the Iconic Grace Kelly High Society Wedding Dress

The day of Grace Kelly’s bachelorette party, she gets very toasted, and her fiancee angrily orders her to lay off the booze.

She refuses and instead goes outside to dance with the fun reporter played by Frank Sinatra.

Both characters are thoroughly toasted and also go for a drunken swim in the sparkling pool.

The next morning, which is the day of the wedding, Grace Kelly’s character wakes up and spots the reporter’s watch on her night table.

She is horrified that she can’t recall a thing that happened!

Her finance is beyond upset and is extremely suspicious. Her ex-husband is there too, and he is highly entertained by the entire scene.

The drama mounts, until the reporter arrives and confirms that nothing at all happened the night before after the two of them had a cool dip in the pool!

Grace Kelly’s character is then angry at her finance for doubting her and announces that the wedding is off!

This is the perfect setting for her ex-husband, Dexter, (Bing Crosby) to convince her that she was in love with him all the time.... Grace Kelly glows as she walks down the aisle in her eye-turning vintage wedding dress... excited for the next chapter in her life ... with her true love at her side.
