Grace Kelly oscar dresses are the perfect dress inspiration for your next special occasion!

Known for her elegant, chic fashion both on and off screen, today we’ll look at Grace Kelly’s oscar dresses that she wore to the oscars in 1955 and 1956.

Grace Kelly sure knew who to go to for her gowns, for her 1955 oscar gown she enlisted Edith Head, and for her 1956 gown Helen Rose.

She had worked with these costume designers in some of her films, resulting in some similar dress styles as you’ll see below.

Did grace kelly win an oscar?

Grace Kelly was nominated for an Acadamy Award for her role in Mogambo opposite Clark Gable and Ava Gardner. In her early role, Grace Kelly played Linda Nordley, who falls for Clark Gable’s tough guy safari character Victor Marswell.

Despite her amazing fashion in the film she didn’t win an oscar for the film. Her fashion in the film was designed by Helen Rose, who later designed her famous wedding gown.

1955 was Grace Kelly’s lucky year when she won the oscar for Best Actress for her role as the loyal wife who put her alcoholic husbands needs above her own in The Country Girl.

To accept her oscar for her role in The Country Girl, Grace Kelly teamed up with the legendary fashion designer Edith Head.

Edith Head, who had worked Grace Kelly with for numerous films, including multiple Hitchcock films, designed her stunning mint green oscar dress.

The green dress goes perfectly with Grace Kelly’s complexion.

Her elbow length white gloves give the dress an added dose of glamour.

To keep the focus on the dress, her hair is back away from her face and she wore simple earrings.

William Holden starred opposite of Grace Kelly in 2 films: The Country Girl (for which she won this oscar) and another film in which she has a small part as his wife in The Bridges at Tokyo Ri.

Grace kelly oscar dress 1956

1956 was also a big year for Grace Kelly.

Unfortunately she didn’t win another oscar but it was still a busy year for her.

She starred in her final film High Society opposite Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby, and then got engaged to her Prince.

The fashion she wore in High Society was designed by Helen Rose, who also designed Grace Kelly’s oscar dress 1956, and then who later designed her wedding dress….seems like they were both busy!
